Jullie hebben zeker al eens gehoord van Kartell, de Italiaanse fabrikant van design meubels, lampen en woonaccessoires. Dit Italiaanse merk heeft in zijn 70-jarig bestaan de wereld veroverd met zijn kunststof meubelen waaronder de Louis Ghost chair en Componibili-serie. Design waar ik van hou is minimalistisch, tijdloos en bestaat uit duurzame materialen zoals hout, metaal of leer. Giulio Castelli dacht hier duidelijk helemaal anders over een koos voor het commerciële kunststof. Een gewaagd materiaal voor design meubels, de grens met 'kitsch' is immers zeer klein en geen enkele innovatieve ontwerper wil zijn producten als goedkoop bestempeld zien worden. Kartell bewijst ondertussen dat design en kunststof wel degelijk een winnend team zijn. Met wereldontwerpers als Philippe Starck en Eugenie Quitlett biedt Kartell vandaag de dag topdesign aan betaalbare prijzen.
FAVORIETE KARTELL PRODUCTEN
Hoewel kunststof meubels niet meteen op mijn interieur wishlist staat, zijn er zeker genoeg items van Kartell die ik toch kan appreciëren:
1. Het begin van het meubeltijdperk voor Kartell begon dankzij de Componibili serie van Anna Castelli. De stapelbare kastjes gemaakt van ABS-kunststof (zoals de LEGO blokjes) zijn multifunctioneel en geschikt voor elke kamer. Ideaal als bijzettafels, nachtkastjes of noem maar op. Al sinds zijn bestaan een bestseller en ik moet zeggen dat ik dit een heel interessant nachtkastje vindt!
2. Deze FL/Y lamp die in alle kleuren van de regenboog beschikbaar is, maakt zichzelf interessant vanwege zijn vorm. De vorm is net geen halve bol maar de snijlijn ligt net onder de diameter waardoor het meeste licht opgevangen wordt. Het doorzichtig methacrylaat zorgt voor een schittering die de lamp als een zeepbel doet uitzien. Fascinerend op zijn minst!
3. De Masters stoel is een enorm doordacht ontwerp; wanneer je 3 beroemde klassiekers samenvoegt (de Vlinderstoel van Arne Jacobsen, de Tulpenstoel van Eero Saarinen en de Eiffelstoel van Charles Eames) dan bekom je het resultaat van de Masters stoel van Philippe Starck voor Kartell. Organisch maar toch minimalistisch en speels - Ik ben fan!4. Als laatste de befaamde Louis Ghost chair, opnieuw een ontwerp van Philippe Starck. Persoonlijk ben ik niet zo een grote fan van de klassieke barok stijl, maar het idee van een doorzichtige stoel vind ik wel geniaal! (Extra pluspunt: hij is stapelbaar)

Interior design that I love is minimalistic, timeless and consists of sustainable materials as wood, metal or leather. Giulio Castelli clearly though differently about this and went for commercial plastic. A daring material for furniture design since the limit with 'kitsch' is very small and no innovative designer wants to see his products labeled as cheap. Meanwhile Kartell has proven that design and plastic are indeed a winning combination. With world-famous designers as Philippe Starck and Eugenie Quitlett, Kartell today offers top design at affordable prices.
FAVORITE KARTELL ITEMS
Although plastic furniture is not immediately on my interior wishlist, there are certainly enough items from Kartell that I can appreciate:
1. The beginning of the furniture era for Kartell started with the Componibili series by Anna Castelli. The stackable cabinets made of ABS plastic (know from the LEGO blocks) are multifunctional and suitable for any room. Perfect as side table or night stand or you name it. A bestseller ever since the beginning and I have to say that I would mind having this one as a bed side table.
2. This FL/Y lamp that is available in all colors of the rainbow makes itself interesting because of its shape. The shape is not half a sphere, but the cut line is just below the diameter so that it collects most of the light. The clear materials creates a sparkle that makes the lamp look like a bubble. Fascinating at least!
3. The Masters chair is a very thoughtful design. When you combine 3 famous classics (The butterfly chair of Arne Jacobsen, the Tulip chair of Eero Saarinen and the Eiffel chair of Charles Eames) you get the result that became the Masters chair for Kartell. Organic and playful yet minimalistic - I like it!
4. At last the famous Louis Ghost chair, also a design by Philippe Starck. To be honest I'm not really that much of a fan of the classic baroque style, but I think the idea of a transparent chair is genius! (Extra plus: it's stackable)
